A guy went on craigslist posing as a woman wanting sex. He then got a lot of responses and nude pictures sent to him from a lot of men many of them married which he then publically posted.

I have to scan millions of profiles before they are allowed to post to my dating site and I also know much of the internal workings of other sites. I have found the following.
1. Adult sites have 10 male profiles for every female profile.
2. 30% of female profiles looking for sex are actually men or otherwise fake.
3. another 20% are escorts or intro’s to porn sites
4. Another 20%+ are married couples, or just married cheaters
5. There are a few real women, but not many.
I delete the vast majority of “intimate encounters” uploaded to my site because people have to register to email and use the site I can detect all this crap. Sites like craigslist can not detect this.
Lots of people say this guy is going to get sued or should get sued for publically posting information. One can argue that there is no expecation of privacy, because you know before hand that the chance you are actually talking to a real person is far less then 50%.
I just just amazed that there are enough men aka suckers out there making the sex personals industry a 1 billion dollar+ a year business, several times that of the “online dating” business.

Posting the information of who replied to the ads is going a bit too far. ITs interesting that most female profiles are fake and if there is a way to stop fake profiles.

If this guy is sued, the case would be fun to follow. The way I see it, if you solicit someone on the internet and then complain that your wife left you because of this guy posting the data on his website, you deserved it. Your actions speak for themselves.

What needs to happen is many dating sites have to find a new strategy to attract more REAL single women. There are so many dating sites where the ratio of men Outnumber women by a HUGE margin.
Markus, I already know you know this, so I hope you can be one website that makes an honest effort at getting REAL single women to sign up.

Working for a dating site myself I can tell you that there is absolutely no reliable way of 100% authenticating a profile. I’d further posit that the ’suckers’ using the sex personals sites are not so far different from the ones using your site and the one I work for; at the very least their aims are the same; you and I, Markus, simply make our living from a slightly more discerning brand of shopper.
The knee-jerk reaction of many people to this story seems to be that if the respondents to the fake ad were genuine singles, they have nothing to fear in being exposed and that the only ones who would trouble to sue are the cheating spouses. Again, as any in the industry know, online dating is a highly sensitive issue for many users and, though we strive to reduce the stigma, people do have a basic right to insist on their privacy. The key difference between craigslist and sites like ours is that we have a privacy policy, whereas contacts via craigslist are ‘at user’s own risk’. However, craigslist is at heart a community driven service and acts like rfjason’s brutally vandalistic to the spirit of the free web.
What seems to me to be the key issue here is that this person’s actions have absolutely no benefit to anyone whatsoever; they are in fact pure vandalism. This rfjason has gone out of his way to act in the most destructive way possible, not only towards the personal lives of people completely unconnected to him but also towards the valuable community spirit that makes services such as craigslist function. The saddest fact of this is that the only outcome which could even possibly be regarded as positive or beneficial to *anyone* is the propulsion of this individual into the limelight.

It’s true, I’ve used stolen pics of females and post them up on cl in several major cities just to satisfy my curiosity. Usually well over 50 to 80 men reply, depending on the city, nyc by far the most with over 150 replies. Yes, it was wrong. I was going through a very lonely period and I’ve since stopped posting fake ads. But I do want to share some of my findings. The majority were just the average guy next door type, some were very handsome, and 15% were just repulsive. Some were attached, some single. Some used well thought-out words, while some sent crude one liners. A few replies were so creative and provoking it made me think about my own shortcomings. Some were very successful business men(attorney, doctor, actor, stock broker). Whoever they were, whatever they are, they all had one thing in common: They think having the attention of a complete stranger will make them feel better about themselves, even if just for a moment. Like I did.

O, yeah. . . Nowadays fake is everywhere. . . in girls, in cloth, in profiles with nice photo and etc. I think almost people know about that and still “sending you money for plane ticket.” Rhetorical question: “why?”

Any man who is stupid enough to send identifiable photo of himself naked deserves to someone he does not know deserves everything he gets. These guys are just cheap men looking for free sex. If they were smart they would pay the price to satisfy there desires with a discreet escort.
