Mega Adsense Earning site.

Paidcontent is great at keeping track of business info…   Today they had a little blurb on WSJ’s earnings.   Revenue at About.com soared 29.3% to $18.3 million from $14.2 million amid higher advertising and e-commerce revenue. Profit jumped 68 percent to $6.4 million from $3.8 million.

It looks like  most of that money is coming from adsense,  not a bad little business.    Makes you wonder just how much money a site like wikipedia could make with ads all over it.

Do you really think that About.com could be called as “little business” ;) ?

  2. Marc Says:

No Dzmitry. That’s called ironic understatement.

    Really Markus…. ??? :)

About.com is actually a part of NYT not WSJ ;)

    Doesnt Primedia own About.com?

Yes about.com is a good adsense based business but it would not be as profitable like you considering they have to generate their own content and pay their guides. Its much like a traditional content business with less distributional overheads.

Seems many small one man business like you are making it big with adsense. Check out this big adsense check ($281k) i found from digg

Steve, based on the numbers in that PaidContent article, didn’t they make around $2 million profit per month this quarter? That’s *profit*, after paying guides, etc.

I think the updated attempt to make another About.com is marketing guru Seth Godin’s http://www.squidoo.com - no revenue numbers available, and Michael Arrington and some of the other Web 2.0 guys labelled it a “Loser” at a recent conference. Yet its Alexa graph is showing some growth over the past few months and Godin just hired some new tech people to handle it. So…?
