Worlds top dating sites for August from comscore.

September 24, 2009

Here are the top dating sites in the world,  from latest Comscore July 2009 report.       The most interesting trend over the last year is the growing difference between usage at paid sites verses free sites and hybrids like singlesnet.

topdatingsites

We are doing super well in Canada even though we don’t have a french version of the site which is about 1/4th of the population.   We dominate the english speaking part of the country.    As you can see in august  our user visited nearly 18 times a month compared to 4.2  at eharmony.  And we have 16 times the number of pageviews as our closest competitor  Eharmony.

comscorecanada

It definately looks like the US(chart not shown) is trending free like Canada,   If you combine total visits at Singlesnet and Plentyoffish in the US,  our 2 sites combined already have more monthly visits than all pure paid sites combined.    I don’t think many paid sites are going to be able to maintain critical mass over the next year.    It is sort of the same trend we are seeing in all english speaking countries.

New Research Study raises questions about the scientific validity of some matchmaking sites.

    July 15, 2009

A research paper Kippen,%20Rebecca_paper.pdf based on looking at  2482 marriages and what breaks them apart raises some serious questions about the scientific validity behind some of the major matchmakers.

In a recent interview Galen Buckwalter, chief scientist at eHarmony.com said “Age, in and of itself, is not a factor in compatibility.”

In actual fact,  age is one of the biggest factors in what ends the marriages according to the study.

If either person smokes  than it close to triples the chances of ending the marriage.   ( Eharmony matches smokers to non smokers they also list a few other things that tend to lead to divorce.)

    The same goes for drinking….

There are many other examples in that report based on 30 years of research into what creates unstable marriages.    To date no site has wanted to submit their tests to scientific validation  and even those that do  are only showing  10 -20%  better than chance of marriages forming,     But you can get that kind of improvement by simply matching non smokers with non smokers and people with people in their age range.
