Newsweek Looks at Plentyoffish.

Newsweek has a article that looks to see if free dating sites like Plentyoffish and Craigslist are killing off the paid dating industry.    Looks like there is only a summary online.

It’s crazy, Im still seeing some ads for Match.com with Dr. Phil. They are juicing it, I find.

  2. Mik Says:

You should hope these paid dating sites don’t go away. 99% of your ads are the high paying ads for match.com, eharmony, etc. It’s ironic that the your competitors are the ones bringining in your revenue now! when they go away, so will their ad dollars.

  3. Jenny Says:

Mik, with the amount of traffic PlentyofFish now has I think it would be profitable even if it didn’t promote dating sites. It could switch it’s ads to ringtones or something like that and still do well.

  4. Saïd Amin Says:

ringtones….riiiight. my friend runs a 30 million a year ringtone business and between me and you (and everyone who reads this), the revenue comes from late night impulse TV ads and not from online banner campaigns. the highest converting ads for free/subscription dating sites are ads from dating sites. not a shocker, right? after all, you are single, on a dating site and looking for singles, so dating ads are more than apropos.

PofF makes a fraction of its current revenue if there are no Match, Singlesnet, eHarmony, Chemistry, True ads…yes indeed, quite ironic. Markus has mentioned that he can make plenty selling flowers and such…sure, you will make a pretty nickel but just a fraction of what you make running dating ads from the paying dating sites. PofF is a great affiliate network for the top dating websites. a farm system for recruiting talent/leads if you will…

    life is good.

  5. Markus Says:

Top 3 advertisers on Plentyoffish for 2006 were all ring tone companies. Dating ads produce way less revenue then other ads and will soon be replaced.

    Nise site!

  7. Tom Says:

Markus, how is this true? I don’t think I have ever seen ringtone ads on pof. They all seem to be dating ads.

Getting information off the Internet is like taking a drink from a fire hydrant
