32 Billion images a month.

In November plentyoffish  got nearly 6 billion pageviews and served out  nearly 32 billion images  in addition to that our IM servers handle about 30 billion pageviews a month.    All of this traffic is handled by our 11 webservers of which we could probably get rid of 5 and everything would still work fine.   All of this may sound like it costs massive amounts of money,  but all hosting/cdn costs  combined are under $70k/month.

What are typical hosting costs for other dating sites?

are you using a cdn or serving everything from origin?

  2. Ksec Says:

I wonder what analystics system you use? I have never heard of what the big page view web site uses.

  3. markus Says:

    Google analyitics…

Most is being served via akamai. But the origin still gets pounded, when we launched a new version of chat last week we used up a full 1 gig line.

  6. Toby Says:

You are paying way to much for traffic! Way too much…

    • Ksec Says:

How would you know? The figure was for Server + Bandwidth + CDN.

      • Toby Says:

30 billion images / month and one user image is about 33 kbyte= roughly 1 Petabyte month of traffic. I guess 10k for servers month = 60k per month for 1 Petabyte of traffic – approximately.

  9. guzeppe Says:

6B pageviews per month come to about 2300 PV/sec. Assuming peak traffic is about quadruple average, that translates into 10k PV/sec at peak. Sounds like a lot for 11 servers with 50% capacity overhead, unless really everything comes from Akamai,. And what the DB?
